Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Iran? The great game goes on.

Just read something bloody awful over at Craig Murray.  For those that don't know him he was the UK ambassador to Uzbekistan who was kicked out for raising a fuss about Karimov's casual brutality.

It's a tale about how British politicians, diplomats and "consultants" and US neoconservatives are colluding to make a war with Iran a reality.  And how a brave UK politician called Paul Flynn is trying to get some answers

From the minutes of a meeting of the Public Administration Committee

Paul Flynn:> It is absolutely crucial to this report. If neo-cons such as yourself, Robert, are plotting a war in Iran, we should know about it.

Chair:> Order. I think the line of questioning is very involved. I have given you quite a lot of time, Mr Flynn. If you have further inquiries to make of this, they could be pursued in correspondence. May I ask you to ask one final question before we move on?

I think he's on to something and it makes me very worried indeed.

Update

Following the suggestion from Isabelle Hays - a (very - I have to pick up my kids) brief introduction to the Great Game.

This essentially posits that the US are late arrivals to the grab for Middle East Resources.

Russia and the UK have been at it for years and it is so deeply embedded in  the political/corporate/diplomatic framework that it's now pretty well an inevitable consequence of the way that the UK is run.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Libya have been the playthings of the British establishment  for so long now they feel that pretty much anything goes.

Update 2

A number of people have asked me to expand on the history and meaning of the Great Game, however the purpose of my writing this diary was to make Craig Murray's article more widely known.  He's been onto this for some time, but it's yet to gain traction. This stuff needs to be in the MSM.
